Summer is the perfect time for burgers–but forget conventional meat laden with hormones and antibiotics. My guest for this episode of Transform Your Kitchen is Jonathan Martin, personal trainer and owner of FitnessLink (www.TnFitnessLink.com). He walks us through a delicious Lamb Sliders recipe perfect for a summer dinner.

Mmmm, I could almost smell them through my computer. Thanks for sharing, Jonathan.
Question, Dr. Axe: I seem to be sensitive to onions. I can’t eat them unless they’re chopped and cooked really well, like in a spaghetti sauce. What vegetables have the same health benefits as onions? And, is there is a suitable substitute for onions for most recipes?
Thank You Kindly,
~Cheryl
Garlic has the same benefits as onions. However, what you may actually be allergic to is the sulfur found in garlic and onions. So garlic may affect you the same way, but you can try it and see. Allicin and Sulfur are the compounds in these foods that make them so healthy.
Leeks, shallots or chives are also decent substitutes for many recipes. I often use them in place of onions, and they work well.:)
Ahh, great – Thank you for the tips, Jonathan!

Dr. Axe: Ah, great, thank you! Garlic is actually OK, thankfully – I had some last night when I made your recipe for chicken fajitas (minus the onions, of course :->)
Thanks again
~Cheryl
Great recipe Jonathan thanks! Even though I don’t eat lamb I may see if it works with turkey. Loved the seriously intense look on Josh’s face & how he couldn’t wait to eat them! You should have video taped you both eating.
I can’t wait to try this recipe. Going to stop by whole foods tomorrow after leaving Exodus. Thanks Jonathan!
Wow,thanks Jonathan.I’m gonna try this recipe too.
Dr. Josh, where do you get fresh ground lamb in Nashville? I want to try your recipe.
You can find lamb at any natural health foods store like Whole Foods. Or you could try substituting ground turkey or grass-fed meat.
