I prepared this shake today and was genuinely shocked at how delicious it was. The color sent the kids running, but I am sure they will come along if I give them a blind taste test! Fantastic!!

Dr. Josh- this looks fantastic! I have been making green smoothies with kale but I love the addition of cinnamon, cayenne and vanilla. I can’t wait to try this!

I am going to go buy some more kale and try this. I love kale and so it sounds great.

My toddler especially loves the this shake and even asks for it! I make it with fresh kale from my garden and it’s fantastic. (Kale grows through the winter here in TN – it’s a super easy crop to start and maintain.)

    Dr. Josh,
What a terrific share. Have been using kale for salads, wraps and now shakes. Thanks for all you do in the name of health.

Dr. Axe, could you tell me what kind of blender you are using in the video? I’m wondering if it’s some sort of industrial-strength blender. I’ve been hunting for a good blender for awhile now. Thanks for your input, can’t wait to try the kale shake!

  7. Sounds fantastic! I’m going to get some kale tomorrow and make this shake!

  8. I was surprised at how great tasting this shake was when I tried it in the raw foods class. It’s easy breezy to make and so yummy.

  9. Catherine says:

I thought the only thing kale was good for was decoration on a salad bar. :-) I was really skeptical of this one, but your explanation regarding the benefits of the ingredient list urged me to give it a try. Wow, was I surprised. Awesome! How can something so green – not taste green?!? After trying the kale shake I’m anxious to try everything else. Thanks!

I can see this is a VitaMix and, while I’m thinking of getting one, I’m trying to see if I will actually make shakes often enough to get one so I’ve been using my Cuisinart. Can I make kale shakes in an 8 cup Cuisinart?

  11. Shirley says:

The kale shake has really great taste! Truely amazing! And the thought that it is so healthy too! Wow! I have energy now.

  12. Kristin says:

honestly, I didn’t like tihs shake’s taste, until I added strawberries, blueberries and triple the grapes. Now it’s ok.

  13. Shara says:

I am dying to know how to make this. i cannot get the video t show. Is there somewhere to get the printed recipe? Please, please. the videos don’t do much for me anyway. I can not see them, becuase I am blind. :)

      Shara,
Without telling you all the benefits of the kale smoothie ingredients, the lowdown was in this order:
      1/2 cup or more water
as much kale as he could apparently cram in there
about 1/4 cup of grapes or more
      1 banana
      dash of cinnamon or more
      smaller dash of cayenne pepper
about 5 ice cubes to make it refreshing

Hope you can try it. This drink always makes me think of my husband who recently left for a year in the Gulf – as he makes it every morning!
