I’m not usually one to get star-struck. But I have to say it was pretty awesome to meet Darius Rucker last week at the Music Row Live event during CMA week in Nashville. I love his music!
I also met people like Gretchen Wilson, Danny Gokey, Jason Meadows, Randy Montana (who, incidentally, is a fan of my radio show), Bo Bice, Eric Church, Laura Bell Bundy (who will be a guest of my radio show soon), Bucky Covington, Aaron Tippin, Blaine Larson and Jett Williams. I will post more pictures as soon!
It was great to have the opportunity to connect with so many artists and share healthy recipes, exercise tips and answer any questions they had.
One thing many of them said was that it is extremely hard to eat healthy when they are on the road.
Maybe you’re not a full time country music artist who tours all over the country, but I’m sure you take vacations or even find yourself away from home for most of the day at times.
Eating healthy on the road doesn’t have to be difficult. It might mean you pack a small cooler or just make smarter decisions at a restaurant.
Here are 5 of the best road trip foods:
- Trail Mix
- Fruit (berries, apples, bananas, oranges)
- Larabar (Check for this brand at the store or make your own)
- Raw Veggies (Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, snap peas)
- Hummus
If you do stop at a restaurant, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Opt for a big salad with oil & vinegar dressing
- Choose meat and double veggies
- Ask for brown rice instead of white rice
- Skip the soda and sweet tea. Carry stevia packets in your wallet or purse if you need to sweeten your tea.
What country music artist would you most like to meet?
And what foods do you like to take on road trips with you?

Thanks for the tips! I don’t tour around the country, but I do stay on the go. It has been a struggle to keep my family eating healthy between ball practices, ball games, dance recitals, and birthday parties. My daughter LOVES your trail mix so I always try to keep some with us!
Thanks so much for all you do!
As far as meeting a country music star, I would LOVE to meet Garth Brooks! His voice is nice, but I enjoy watching his performances and videos. His passion is so evident and intoxicating!
Solid article. When I was on the road DJing and had time to sit down and eat. I found that sushi (when available) was the best food during my travels. It is healthy, light on the stomach and quick. Some of my favorite memories of touring cantered around a dinner table with raw fish, miso, green tea, a little sake and good friends.
I could judge a promoter’s character and taste by his/her choice in sushi joints.
FYI, I met Darius in Orlando in 1994 after a Hootie concert. Nice guy. Signed my New
England 150 Lacrosse cap.
Good week!
